As a method of increasing knowledge and maintaining proficiency our members meet two evenings a month for training activities. We have 3 NFPA 1041 Certified Fire Instructors who oversee our internal training program. Our experienced members actively contribute by sharing their valuable experiences and expertise within the group. Our department hosts multiple firefighter training opportunities throughout the year for advanced level training.
Required Courses
Each member of our department must complete a comprehensive training program, before attaining the status of full-fledged firefighters. These members receive up to 150 hours of training in their first year of membership. The required trainings are:
- NFPA 1001 Firefighter 1

Our members have 3 years to complete the following training courses after joining the department:
- NFPA 1001 Firefighter 2
- NFPA 1006 Vehicle Extrication Operations

After completing of their initial training we strongly encourage our firefighters to take advanced level courses including:

- Technician level training
Our members who have attained full firefighter status must actively participate in 16 hours of annual firefighter training. This training involves station training, advanced courses, and other approved classes to ensure they maintain sharp and ready skills for responding to emergencies. We highly encourage members to continually train throughout their years of service.
We continually host advanced levels of firefighter training through West Virginia Public Service Training, West Virginia University – Fire Extension Service, and other training organizations to provide opportunities for our members, and members of neighboring departments to improve their skills.
